Track workout 8/13/2009

This was a really interesting session.  Didn’t feel like working out, and my body was just tired from back-to-back days of long sessions.  Anyway, this is how it went.

  • 1600, Z3  – 6:46 (started out easy and got faster)
  • 800, Z3 – 6:42
  • 800, Z3 – 6:26
  • 400, Z3 – 6:05
  • 400, Z3 – 6:12
  • 400, Z3 – 6:19
  • 400, Z3 – 6:26
  • 200, Z4 – 6:32  ( my body didn’t get the memo it was Z4)
  • 200, Z4 – 6:01
  • 200, Z4 – 6:47
  • 200, Z4 – 7:00

I think the problem with Z4 at that late stage is that the 200 is just too short.  It takes a little while to accelerate and then by the time you are on your stride the 200 is done.  The last two I was just cruising into the finish.

I did refrain from over-striding, so my minutes-per-mile pace were a result of shorter but faster strides.  Still feels a little strange.  Maybe in the sprints, I should have opened it up since the body at that point got used to the tiny steps–it may have limited my speed over that short distance.
